A 12-year-old was shot Wednesday night after throwing a snowball at a car in Hartford, Connecticut, police said.

The child and an 11-year-old were throwing snowballs when one snowball hit a car. The car “looped the block” to chase the kids and “fired rounds at the children,” Hartford police Lt. Aaron Boisvert said at a news conference Thursday.

The 12-year-old’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, he said. The 11-year-old was not struck by gunfire.

“It could have been a lot worse,” Boisvert said.

Officials are looking for that vehicle and investigating what happened. Police are not sure how many people were in the car.

Boisvert said police are also looking at video from that area.

Boisvert did not share an update on the child’s condition Thursday. NBC Connecticut reported that the child was taken to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for treatment after the shooting.
