A person was in custody at a building occupied by a Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown Atlanta after police responded to a report of a person with a gun there Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Gunshots rang out at the high rise following the afternoon response from the Atlanta Police Department. It wasn’t clear if anyone was struck or injured.

At 4:35 p.m., police said on social media platform X that a shelter-in-place order for those in and near the high rise on 14th Street Northeast has been lifted and a suspect was in custody.

The department asked people to continue to avoid the area as it investigated the incident.

The shelter-in-place order, posted on X before 4 p.m., included a recommendation that people in the high rise stay away from windows.

“Citizens within site of the Four Seasons Hotel are advised to avoid any windows and rooms facing the area,” Atlanta Police Department said on X.

NBC affiliate WXIA of Atlanta reported that a SWAT team and at least one police sniper are part of the police response as multiple rounds of gunfire were heard in the area.

Police said they established a perimeter around the high rise.

The Four Seasons hotel takes up 19 of 53 stories of the high rise and occupies 244 rooms, 23 of which are designated suites. It opened in 1997, according to the Four Seasons.

The building also includes residences, businesses and offices.
