Country singer Sundance Head, who won Season 11 of ‘The Voice,’ was injured by a stray bullet at his ranch in Texas on Friday, his agent said.

Head, 46, was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Tyler, where he was recovering after being stabilized, agent Trey Newman said in a statement.

The round lodged in a fatty area of Head’s stomach, he said. No surgery was scheduled. “We are awaiting further details of this accident,” Newman said.

Head’s wife, Misty, said on Sundance’s verified Facebook page that surgery would be unnecessary.

“Bullet went in above his navel and lodged into his abdominal wall missing all vital organs,” she wrote. “He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet.”

She called for prayers for her husband earlier in the day.

Newman said the round that injured Head likely came from a nearby hunter’s errant gunfire.

“At this time we don’t have info on exactly how it happened but are 100% positive it was not self inflicted,” he said.

A spokesperson for the Smith County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for more information.

Head posted a photo of the inside of a large tent early Friday, stating, “Woke up this morning to the sound of silence.”

Head was coached by Blake Shelton when he won “The Voice” in 2016. He toured with Shelton the next year, released an album in 2022 — one of four in his career — and returned to the show for Shelton’s send-off last year, according to his show bio.

Though Head’s father, Roy Head, was a noted musician, the singer didn’t start to make inroads in music until he was 33. By the time he reached “The Voice” for Season 11, he had been thwarted in his attempts to advance beyond the semifinals on “American Idol,” according to an NBC network update on the performer.

“The Voice” and NBC News are entities of NBCUniversal Media, LLC.
